- What I learned at the Pinterest event in San Francisco...

June is always such a busy month and it has flown by!
I've chatted with several people since the event and shared a few things that I learned. But as usual one of the best parts of attending the conference was meeting other bloggers. And one of those clever bloggers was Monica Froese. I actually was fortunate enough to hang out and chat with Monica and a couple of her friends late into the evening. I got to know more about her business and her training courses.
Besides networking with smart women, one of the main things I learned during the event is that promoted pins are a smart strategy.
That's obviously how Pinterest makes money, so they clearly are going to tell people to use promoted pins... but I really do think it makes sense. Besides the benefit of getting click thru traffic to your blog, you end up getting some organic pins and traffic as a result of the paid ones. The repins from your promoted pins still keep benefiting you organically.
Also, a huge benefit of promoted pins is that even if you only put a small amount of money behind a promoted pin, you can then access analytics that you can't see on regular pins.
I've been thinking for a long time that I should try promoted pins but I've procrastinated.
I use some Facebook ads for sponsored posts to get an initial boost of traffic since pins can take so long to gain traffic organically and it can be hard to get a good chunk of traffic fast to a sponsored post.
But the tough thing is that promoted pins can be a lot more expensive per click through than FB ads... if, like me, you don't know what you're doing! I attempted to promote one pin but my click through cost was $1.13 while my Facebook click through cost for the same blog post was $0.13. Pretty big difference!
So... I decided to sign up for a course from Monica. She is incredibly smart (has an MBA in finance) and really knows how to make promoted pins work and get low cost clicks.
I figured if I don't learn what I'm dong fast, I'm going to end up wasting money spending too much per click. So I decided to learn fast from an expert.
Monica only runs this course at certain times a year, and until tomorrow it has a special bonus.
I figure it's worth the couple hundred dollars to save my time and money trying to figure out how to do promoted pins effectively.
Here's my affiliate link if you want to check it out... Pin Practical Promotions.
I've just started going through the course, so I can't give you my results yet... but I wanted to let you know now before she closes registration.

(And one of the extra benefits of taking the course, is an exclusive Facebook group... so hopefully I will see you in there!)
